Holiday Capers...April '24

Anyone else have a little person home for the holidays? I know it's not everyone's scene but I really dig having spacious days at home with my littlest groover.
One of my absolute shiny favourite things is when they're in the mood for a bit of creative, mess making. It's divine.
Here's a couple of little activities that we really get into when the vibe is right.
  1. Window Painting
We are lucky enough to have some big glass windows and door in our joint which is perfect for some creative play. Grab yourself some white board markers, even water soluble paints, spray bottles, sponges...whatever you have laying around really, and get to work!
We paint lovely murals and stories, favourite characters, our own song lines and it is literally hours of fun. The best part is the kid equally loves getting some bubbly water and washing it off. After we've taken some cool pics for our socials that is.
  1. Chalk Side Walk
Decks, drive ways, side walks all work equally well for this one. Grab some cheap boxes of colourful chalk and make some art for the world to see.
We often have great stories evolving from square to square and inspiration from the outside world is all around us. It's a lovely, breezy Sunday afternoon activity. Just be careful to draw around our little ant friends!
Again, take some pics of your incredible work because it only takes a hose or a rain shower to wash it away so you can start with a fresh canvas the next day.
  1. Box Building Challenge
I'm not sure why but I'm a box collector. I always think I'm going to need each cool box that comes my way. Thing is...I generally don't need EVERY box I collect which is great because we have some amazing shapes to inspire our imaginations.
Paint, tape, glue, glitter and boxes is the most lush table of fun you could imagine. There's no limit to what you can build and create.
We've made bridges, robots, towers, characters and whole villages. Add some paper cups and even got some cool feet or rocket ship bases.
  1. Free Paint
It's basic but sometimes the best fun is a free for all with Mum's art supplies. Get your creative juices flowing with your kids and foster their sense of adventure.
It's amazing how painting and creating alongside your kid can result in them picking up techniques and tricks and then putting their own spin on it in ways you've never even thought of.
We like the tangible real paint experience in the studio or outside together on a sunny day but it's equally enjoyable playing on procreate together when the set up and clean up feels like a little too much work. I have often picked up new tricks watching my kid zoom about in the digital world.
  1. Nature Walk Collage
This can be as easy or as involved as you like. Sometimes we just go out into the garden with a canvas bag and scissors and clip and collect leaves, seeds, twigs, dirt, rocks or whatever takes our fancy.
Other times we go down the beach and forage all sorts of lovely worn wood and beach goodies. On other occasions its a bush and creek walk where we smell the beauty green lushness as we go.
Once home we then take our new treasures and mix them with glue, paint and anything else that takes our fancy to make fabulous collages. The most beautiful memories of our adventures.
