Music to Create To
It's true, I vibe with a sound vibe. I need noise to focus and what better way to invoke the creative muse than to spin some tunes.
Curating my creative space is all about the ambience people. Even if it is a party just for one. This generally involves invoking the Divine Rock 'n Roll Goddess, putting on some candles and getting the groove going with some almighty playlists and mood lighting.
There's a special magic in creating the right atmosphere to allow the personality of your work to shine through, as with any good dinner party hostess.
Here's some tunes we are currently dropping on the reg to get our creative space vibrating at the right temperature.
  1. Mini Van EP - The Rions - This little NSW crew has a very 'noughties feel for me, similar to the likes of Motor Ace. It has the feel of a more polished version of your brothers garage band with some catchy riffs and home town experiences contained in the lyrics.
  2. Unsolicited Advice for your DYI EP - The Bouys - Another Aussie act and filled with Rock Goddesses galore. Zoe Catteral's voice keeps it's sweetness while her rhythm guitar has that distinctive 'grungesk' vibe.
  3. Home - Kingswood- During lockdown Kingwood played around with their third album, Juvenile by releasing a companion country-themed re-imagining called Reveries. Home continues some of these themes with a rootsy, earthy alt-rock feel. Look at for some very solid cameos from guest guitarists Jared James Nichols and Aussie, Shane Reilly.
  4. Olive Vox - I fell in love with Olive Vox through their covers, particularly Ain't No Rest for the Wicked and Superstition. Two of my all time favourite songs which they do a smashing job of. These guys have an old skool, dirty rock and roll style which I love. One to keep an eye on as they build their originals list.
  5. The Happiness Bastards - The Black Crowes-What can I say. I'm a definite sucker for those real, old time, rock stars and you can't get much more rock 'n' roll than The Black Crowes. This is a band that I never tire of and I'm especially loving the new tune, Wilted Rose featuring Lainey Wilson, who you might also know from Yellowstone.
